Ann Sobrato Officers
ALANA YAMAT : President
Alana Yamat is currently a junior at Ann Sobrato High School, and this is her first year serving as GirlSTEMpowerment Santa Clara's president! Alana is focused on expanding the reach and impact of GSSC, both at a high school and elementary-middle school level. A firm believer in perseverance and the abilities of everyone to succeed in the face of difficult material, especially when it comes to math, she hopes to encourage a love for math and a place of belonging for girls in STEM. She aims to always be fully supportive of her board and members, and make sure they know their needs and wants matter. Alana adores her math and history/social studies classes, especially Calculus AB, AP Psychology, and APUSH! She hopes to eventually pursue a career and degree that merges these concepts together, letting the math and facts support and explain the current events happening around the world today. She is also Vice President of CSF, NHS, and volunteers with the EDGE nonprofit and Santa Clara Library outside of school. During the spring time, badminton is her #1 stress relief and causer! |
ASHLYN WILSON: Vice President
Ashlyn is currently a junior at Ann Sobrato High School, and she became Vice President of Girls STEMpowerment because she truly loves the STEM field and hope to pursue it in the future. Specifically, Ashlyn is super into coding and physics because of the practicality of both subjects. However, she's always been fond of and successful in math as well. She hopes to major in computer science or mechanical engineering in college with the ultimate goal of becoming a software engineer, or something along those lines, for a large tech company. Another large aspect of Ashlyn's life is volleyball, playing competitively for both a travel club and the Sobrato varsity team. She's also involved in a few other clubs on campus, being Vice President in Letters for Rose, along with actively volunteering in the community. Some words that describe her are curious and adventurous. Curious because she genuinely love to learn and because it's interesting to learn how and why the things in the world around me work. In the future, Ashlyn plan on studying abroad for multiple collegiate semesters and hopes to one day live overseas for a few years in an effort to explore more of the world. Ashlyn's approach to achieving her goals will always center around hard work and drive, because anything she's involved with she does because she's passionate.

Adri is the Treasurer for GSSC! Currently a junior, Adri plans on going to nursing school after graduation. Her favorite subjects are science, history, and math, and some of her hobbies include reading, baking, and cooking. Adri joined GSSC with the goal of promoting STEM to more girls; as it's an ever growing field that is need of women representation. She hopes that her passion for STEM and learning can lead to the growth of GSSC within the next year. |
JEANNIE BUI: Secretary
Jeannie Bui is currently a Junior at Ann Sobrato High School. This is their first year as GSSC's Secretary and is excited to get more involved within GSSC. They are grateful to be given the opportunity to serve their community even more. Jeannie is determined, hardworking, decisive, and is passionate about mental health awareness and social justice advocacy. In the future, Jeannie plans to study neuroscience and psychology in college in hopes of pursuing psychiatry! In their free time, they enjoy reading, listening to music, and watching shows. They hope that through GSSC, younger students are able to feel motivated in working towards future goals and pursuing interests within an environment where they feel respected and encouraged. |
SOPHIA CHIANG:
Publicity Chair Sophia Chiang is a junior at Ann Sobrato High School this year. This is her first year as the GSSC Publicity chair and her 2nd year of being involved with GSSC. She is very excited for the future of GSSC and even more excited to help girls and women find their place in the field of STEM. Sophia enjoys math and anatomy/physiology, which she hopes to go into in the future. Her hobbies include badminton, reading, and art. She believes that through GSSC, she will be able to inspire and empower girls through all ages to be more active in STEM and hopefully discover their passions. |
General Members
SARA MARTINEZ : General Member
Sarah is a freshman at sobrato. Her interests are learning about computer science and getting into graphic design. She really likes to do art, which is mostly just drawing, with some digital art. She is usually very kind and considerate of others though she does tend to be nervous when talking to new people, although She is trying to work on my communication skills. She wants to get into the volleyball team as well (next year). She wishes to learn new skills, which is the main reason she joined this club.
